Update
2/10/04
The
widening of SR 64 through the City of Princeton is currently under design
by INDOT. The project is categorized as “Added Travel Lanes” and
extends from 9th Street to slightly east of State Street along
Broadway Street. The proposed improvement will widen SR 64 to five lanes,
two lanes for each direction with a two-way left turn lane, from 9th
Street to Brown Street. From Brown Street to State Street, SR 64 will be
widened to four lanes with two lanes for each direction. SR 64 will
consist of two lanes, one in each direction to the east of State Street.
The
Spring Street intersection will be widened with dedicated left turn lanes
in all directions. Dorsey Street will be realigned to intersect with
Second Street instead of SR 64. The State Street intersection will be
realigned to intersect with Madison Street. The other intersections within
the project limits will remain the same except for the widening of SR 64.
The
railroad crossing, located just west of Second Street, will be updated. A
new overpass at the tracks is not planned due to the exceptionally high
costs and severity of property impacts, including historic structures.
In
addition to the roadway pavement, a new storm sewer system will be
constructed. The project will include curb and gutter with new inlets and
the replacement of two large culverts under SR 64 between Stout Street and
Washington Street.
City
of Princeton utilities including both sanitary sewer and water mains will
be replaced as part of this project.
Sidewalks
will be included on both sides of the roadway between Brown Street and
State Street.
STATUS
As
of January 2004, the project design is on hold pending completion of the
Environmental Assessment in early 2004. Once design work is resumed, a
Public Hearing will be scheduled, probably in late summer of 2004.
Public notices will be advertised prior to the Public Hearing to
inform the public of the time and location. For information regarding
the public hearing process, contact Rick Clark, INDOT Public Hearings
Manager, at 317-232-6601.
Construction
is anticipated to begin in 2007 and be completed in 2009. The dates given are
approximate and may be adjusted at any time during the design process. |
