The
State has Modified The Lake Road Project:
Realignment
of the intersection of Lake Road and Ind. 64 on the city's eastern edge
has been modified according to a INDOT's current plans.
The
Indiana Department of Transportation favored the city's request to install
storm-sewer pipe instead of widening an existing ditch for improved
drainage. About a half dozen homeowners will be affected.
The
cities local leaders took note when the Department of Transportation plans
to modify the lake road intersection included widening the existing
ditches on the north side of the road, requiring a substantial amount of
right-of-way to construct the large open drainage ditch.
Both
Mayor Robb and councilman Frank Wade authored letters to INDOT asking that
INDOT reconsider their construction design, and reconsider they did.
The intersection will be constructed with drainage pipes where
feasible in place of open ditches.
The
$500,000 project is slated to commence in 2008.
