Long Range Transportation Plan.

For Gibson County

RURAL PLANNING AREA TRANSPORTATION RECOMMENDATIONS

The following projects individually, and as a whole, reduce congestion, increase mobility, and enhance safety, within the rural counties in the EUTS regional planning area. The recommended projects will provide the foundation for the development of a transportation network with improved access for the urban areas and industrial developments to the major roadways in the region.

GIBSON COUNTY

2035 LONG RANGE TRANSPORTATION PLAN 7-20
Projects currently in the Program

G-1 I-69: SR 68 to 4.4 miles south of SR 64
A preferred alignment for the I-69 project, from Evansville to Indianapolis, has been selected
and includes utilizing the I-64 & I-164 Interchange. Gibson County interchanges are proposed
for SR 68, SR 168 and SR 64. This new interstate facility will be part of the NAFTA corridor
that will connect Canada to Mexico.

G-2 I-69: 4.4 miles south of SR 64 to SR 64
See G-1

G-3 I-69: SR 64 to 9.6 miles north of SR 64
See G-1

G-4 SR 64: 9th Street to State Street
SR 64 (Broadway Street) is being widened to five lanes between 9th Street and Spring Street
and to four lanes from Spring Street to State Street. This project will improve the operation
and safety of SR 64 by increasing the roadway capacity according to INDOT construction
standards.

Recommended Transportation Projects
G-5 SR 56: 2nd/Mill Street to 1st Street
SR 56 is to be reconstructed and realigned, resulting in an improved turning radius and
increased traffic flow within the town of Hazleton.

G-6 CR 150S/Heights Chapel Road: US 41 to SR 64
CR 150S will be widened to four lanes from US 41 to CR 100W and from Old US 41 to SR 64.
A new four lane segment will be constructed from CR 100W to Old US 41. This project, along
with the SR 64 project (G-12 below), will create a continuous four-lane east-west link between
I-69 and US 41.

G-7. CR 50S: US 41 to Spring Street
CR 50S will be reconstructed from US 41 to Richland Creek Drive and extended from its
current terminus at Richland Creek Drive to Spring Street. This project will provide an
alternative to SR 64 /Broadway Street for local traffic.

G-8 CR 100W: From proposed CR 50S/Mulberry St. facility to existing McCarty Road/CR 100W
CR 100W will be extended north from where it currently turns east to become McCarty Road,
to the proposed CR 50S/Mulberry St. facility. This facility, in conjunction with G-7 and G-9, will
address local access and mobility concerns.

G-9 2nd Avenue: Current terminus to proposed CR 50S/Mulberry facility
2nd Avenue will be extended to intersect with the proposed facility linking Mulberry Street and
CR 50S.

G-10 Access Rd to Hansen Corporation: from proposed CR 100 W to Hansen Corporation
This facility will extend from the proposed CR 100W (see G-6 above) to access the rear of the
2035 TRANSPORTATION PLAN RECOMMENDATIONS CHAPTER 7
Hansen Corporation facility. It will serve to remove truck traffic from residential areas
surrounding the facility and improve access to US 41.

G-11 CR 350S: US 41 to CR 350E
CR 350S will be reconstructed to an improved two-lane facility, to provide improved east-west
mobility in the area surrounding the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana (TMMI) facility.

G-12 SR 64: CR 150S to I-69
SR 64 will be widened to four lanes from CR 150 S to I-69. In conjunction with the CR 150 S/
Heights Chapel Road project (G-6 above), a four-lane east-west link between I-69 and US 41
will be created.

G-13 SR 168: CR 350E to I-69
SR 168 will be reconstructed from CR 350E to I-69. This improvement, in conjunction with
improvements to CR 350S and the existing CR 350E, will provide an alternative easterly
access and improved access to I-69 for TMMI and surrounding areas.

G-13 US 41: I-64 to Kings Mine Road
Residential and industrial growth in northern Vanderburgh County and southern Gibson County
is expected to continue, thus increasing traffic volumes along the US 41 corridor. Considering
the newly constructed trucking facilities at the I-64 & US 41 interchange combined with the
industrial growth, truck traffic is expected to increase for both through and internal trips.
Widening US 41 to six lanes will increase capacity and thereby reduce congestion along this
busy corridor.
